Tragedy Strikes: 11-Month-old drowns, software engineer mother ends life in grief
The incident highlights concerns about mental health and domestic vigilance

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic incident has occurred in the Bareshwar Nagar area of Bengaluru, Karnataka's capital. An 11-month-old child drowned in a bucket of water. His mother committed suicide due to the shock of the accident. Police also recovered a suicide note at the scene, in which the mother blamed herself for the tragedy.
How did the accident happen?
The deceased child has been identified as Agastya Wali. His mother, Pratibha Wali (29), was a software professional and worked from home, while his father, Mahantesh Wali, was away at work. According to police, on Wednesday evening, Pratibha left the child at home and went to the terrace to collect clothes. During the incident, the child went into the bathroom and fell into a bucket of water, killing him.
Mother devastated by her son's death
Pratibha went into a deep shock after failing to save her child. In a suicide note, she wrote that she could not live after her son's death and held herself responsible for the tragedy. According to reports, she first attempted suicide by consuming pills and slitting her wrists, but when she failed, she finally hanged herself with a sari.
Husband witnessed a heartbreaking scene
When Mahantesh returned home at around 6:30 pm, the door was locked from inside. Despite calling and calling repeatedly, there was no response. After this, he took the key from the window and opened the door. He was stunned to see the scene inside – his wife was hanging from a noose, while the child was lying lifeless on the bed. Empty medicine strips were also found at the spot and cut marks were found on Pratibha's wrist. Currently, the police have registered a case and started investigation. This incident once again highlights the need for domestic vigilance and awareness about mental health.
