New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to officially announce the dates and schedule for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections today at 4 PM through a press conference. Speculation suggests that the elections may be conducted in two phases this year.

During a press briefing in Patna on Sunday, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar emphasized that the Bihar Assembly polls will be completed before November 22, as the current assembly’s term ends on that date.

The ECI conducted a state visit on October 4-5, meeting with political parties, administrative officials, police, and civil society members. Discussions focused on law and order, expenditure monitoring, readiness of polling stations, and the number of phases for the upcoming elections. Political parties reportedly requested the commission to schedule polling around Chhath Puja (Oct 18–28) and Diwali, to ensure maximum voter participation. Sources indicate that voting is likely to be held after Chhath, sometime between late October and November.

For better crowd management and smoother voting, the commission has instructed that each polling station will have a maximum of 1,200 registered voters. Bihar has 243 assembly seats, and a party or coalition needs a majority of 122 seats to form the government.

All eyes are now on the ECI’s 4 PM press conference, which will officially kick off the electoral process in Bihar and set the political calendar in motion for the state.
