Update: 2025-05-18 15:32 GMT

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Like every time, this time too Mumbai is going to receive heavy rainfall during monsoon. However, before the monsoon, a report of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation of Mumbai has raised concerns. In the 2025 report of BMC, 134 buildings have been declared in the 'C1' category. People are still living in 77 of these buildings. After the arrival of this report, BMC has intensified the process of evacuating all these buildings.

Keeping in mind the upcoming monsoon season, BMC has included a total of 134 buildings in Mumbai city in the extremely dangerous i.e. C1 category in its survey report of the year 2025. These buildings have been declared completely unsuitable for living and prone to collapse. Out of these 134 dangerous buildings, BMC has evacuated 57 buildings so far, while people are still living in the remaining 77 buildings. Due to this, both the lives and property of those people are at risk. According to BMC officials, out of these 77 buildings, about 56 are such on which there is a legal dispute or stay order of the court, which is creating obstacles in taking any action in the concerned buildings.

BMC has issued notices to the residents of all these buildings and directed them to vacate the building within 15 days so that loss of life and property can be avoided during monsoon. Also, water and electricity supply has been stopped in some of the buildings which have been declared dangerous, so that people can move to safer places as soon as possible. BMC is appealing to the citizens to leave the dilapidated buildings before the monsoon and give priority to their own and their family's safety, while the administration is using all technical and legal options so that these buildings can be demolished as soon as possible.

Let us tell you that this time the number of dilapidated buildings has decreased as compared to the year 2023. In 2023, a total of 387 buildings were declared dilapidated, while in 2024 this number came down to 188 and now in 2025 it has come down to only 134.
