After Jammu, Heavy Shelling Reported at Pathankot Airbase in Punjab

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Tensions escalated sharply along the India-Pakistan border on Thursday evening as Pakistan attempted to target Jammu airport, followed by heavy artillery shelling reported at the strategically vital airbase in Punjab’s Pathankot.

Following the initial strike attempt on Jammu airport, Indian forces swiftly responded with coordinated countermeasures. Defence sources confirmed that a total blackout was implemented across Jammu city and its adjoining regions, including Udhampur, Kathua, Samba and Kaluchak, as a precautionary move to safeguard military installations and civilian areas.

The Indian Air Defence units have so far intercepted and neutralised eight incoming projectiles, most of which were identified as surface-to-surface missiles. Sources added that the Indian military was already on high alert and fully prepared for such a provocation from across the border. The situation is being closely monitored and further measures are in place to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure and civilian populations.

According to defence officials, India’s response was calibrated and targeted to neutralise potential threats without escalating conflict unnecessarily. “Threats have been neutralised effectively so far, and our forces remain vigilant on all fronts,” they said.

This is the second high-profile military incident within a short span, highlighting a surge in hostilities. The targeting of two major airbases — Jammu and Pathankot — marks a significant escalation in cross-border tensions.

Authorities have not reported any casualties yet, and security remains tight across all vulnerable regions.
