BCCI Postpones IPL 2025 Indefinitely Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The effect of increasing military tension between India and Pakistan is now being seen on the sports world as well. In view of the worsening situation, the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was postponed indefinitely on Friday, 9 May.
The future of the 18th edition of the IPL has been shrouded in uncertainty since Thursday when the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was cancelled following air strike warnings in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot.
An official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, it does not seem appropriate that a game like cricket should continue when there is a war-like situation in the country. The official said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the seriousness of the situation and the safety of the players and staff.
Let us tell you that 58 matches have been played so far in the current season of IPL. 12 matches of the league stage were still left. The final match of the tournament was scheduled to be played in Kolkata on 25 May. Cricket lovers are disappointed with the postponement of IPL, but this decision is being considered necessary considering the security situation in the country.
