Border Security Forces Eliminate Pakistani Intruder in Punjab's Ferozepur Sector
Amristar (The Uttam Hindu): Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, a recent incident took place along the International Border in Punjab's Ferozepur sector where the Border Security Force (BSF) shot and killed a Pakistani intruder during the night of May 7–8, 2025. The individual was observed crossing the border in the dark and was found moving purposefully toward the border security fence. Despite being challenged by BSF personnel, the intruder did not halt and continued advancing. In response to what was perceived as an imminent threat, the BSF troops fired upon the individual, neutralizing him on the spot.
Upon conducting a search of the area, the BSF recovered a mobile phone from the intruder's possession. The body was subsequently handed over to the Punjab Police for further investigation and legal formalities. This incident underscores the vigilance and readiness of the BSF in safeguarding India's borders against unauthorized crossings and potential security threats and escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, all schools and Anganwadi centres in six border districts of Punjab—Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran—remained closed on Thursday, May 8, 2025. This precautionary measure was implemented by local authorities to ensure the safety of students and staff amid heightened security concerns. The decision follows a series of military strikes and retaliatory actions between the two nations, including India's Operation Sindoor and Pakistan's countermeasures. The closure of educational institutions is part of broader civil defense efforts, which also involved nationwide drills aimed at preparing citizens for potential emergencies
