Deportation Dilemma: Supreme Court Directs Verification of Pakistani Family's Documents
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian government had ordered all Pakistani citizens to leave India by a specified deadline following the Pahalgam attack. However, a Bengaluru resident has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on his and his family's deportation to Pakistan. The petitioner and his family claim to be Indian citizens, possessing Indian passports and Aadhaar cards. The Supreme Court has directed government officials to verify the documents related to their citizenship.
Court's Direction
The bench, headed by Justice Suryakant, has ordered that no punitive action be taken against the family until a decision is made by the government authorities. The court has also given the petitioners the liberty to approach the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court if they are dissatisfied with the government's decision. The government authorities have been directed to verify the documents submitted by the family to determine the validity of their Indian citizenship. The court's intervention has provided temporary relief to the family, who claim to be Indian citizens.
