Emergency Order: Punjab Suspends All Educational Activities Amid Rising Tensions
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In a precautionary move amid rising tensions in the region, the Punjab government has ordered the immediate closure of all educational institutions across the state for the next three days. The directive applies to all government, private and aided schools, colleges and universities.
The announcement was made late Thursday night by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, who cited the “evolving situation” as the reason for the statewide shutdown. “It is hereby ordered that all Schools, Colleges and Universities — Government, Private and Aided — across entire Punjab shall remain completely closed for the next three days,” the minister posted on social media.
The order comes hours after reported cross-border shelling incidents and heightened military activity in Jammu and Punjab including an attempted rocket attack near the Jammu airport and heavy shelling at the Pathankot airbase.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and indoors as a preventive measure, assuring that necessary steps are being taken to ensure public safety. Security forces remain on high alert across sensitive locations in Punjab.
This is a developing situation, and further updates from the state and central government are expected.
