From Skies to Streets: ISKCON's Rath Yatra to Feature Sukhoi Fighter Jet Tyres
Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): The very famous and most awaited Rath Yatra by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has us set to break 48 year old tradition in Kolkata. The chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra will be fitted with tyres from Sukhoi fighter jets for the first time.
The decision to replace the traditional Boeing aircraft tyres was made due to the unavailability of new Boeing tyres. ISKCON had been seeking a replacement for the old Boeing tyres for over 15 years. After discovering that the diameter of Sukhoi tyres matched the required specifications, ISKCON decided to use them for the chariots.
A Surprising Request
When ISKCON approached the Sukhoi manufacturing company for a quotation, the company was initially shocked and perplexed about the request. However, after understanding the context and purpose, they agreed to provide four tyres for the chariots.
A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
The use of Sukhoi tyres on the chariots marks a significant technological change and showcases a unique blend of tradition and modernity. This year's Rath Yatra promises to be an exciting and memorable experience for devotees, with Lord Jagannath and his siblings riding on chariots decorated with the robust tyres of Sukhoi fighter jets.
