Two Buses Burnt to Ashes in a Massive Fire at Ghansoli Bus Depot
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Two buses were completely burnt to ashes in a massive fire incident at Ghansoli bus depot in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday morning. One electric and one diesel bus were damaged in this accident. According to officials, this incident happened due to a sudden fire in an electric bus parked in the depot for repairs. The fire spread so fast that a diesel bus parked nearby also got engulfed in it. Both the buses were completely destroyed in this incident.
According to initial information, repair work was going on in the electric bus, for which it was kept in the depot. The exact cause of the fire is not yet clear, but officials believe that a short circuit could be the main reason. As soon as the incident was reported, the depot employees immediately informed the fire brigade. The fire brigade reached the spot and controlled the fire after a lot of hard work. Thankfully, there was no loss of life in this accident.
After the incident, senior officials of Vashi Transport Department and local police reached the spot. Investigation into the cause of the fire has been started. According to transport department sources, the burnt electric bus was one of the new buses introduced on the roads of Navi Mumbai recently. The transport department has suffered a loss of lakhs of rupees due to this accident, as the cost of both the buses was very high.
Officials have assured that safety standards at the depot will be reviewed to prevent such incidents.
At present, police and transport department teams are present at the spot and are engaged in investigation. This accident may affect the functioning of the depot, but officials have said that alternative arrangements will be made immediately to keep the bus services normal.
