Government's Big Relief: Widowed Women to Get ₹4,000 Monthly Assistance
Panaji (The Uttam Hindu): The Goa government has taken an important social welfare step for the widowed women of the state. Now widowed women with children below the age of 21 years will be provided financial assistance of Rs 4000 per month. This decision has been taken under the amendment in the existing social welfare scheme of the state government, which aims to provide financial support to needy women.
Addressing a press conference in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, state Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai said, till now, eligible candidates had to apply to the Social Welfare Department to get Rs 1,500 per month under the Griha Aadhar Scheme, while another application had to be submitted to the state Women and Child Welfare Department for getting monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 as a widow.
But now both these schemes have been brought under the Social Welfare Department and the eligible widow will now get Rs 4,000 per month, he said. He said the eligible beneficiaries need not apply to the Women and Child Welfare Department to remove their names from the scheme as the Social Welfare Department will ask them to remove their names.
