New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In view of the ever-increasing tension with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack and the potential threats, the Union Home Ministry has decided to conduct a large-scale civil defense mock drill in 295 districts of the country tomorrow, Wednesday. Initially this number was said to be 244, but now it has been increased to 295.

This change in number has happened because after the year 2010, due to reorganization of districts and creation of new districts, the number of districts prepared for civil defense has increased by 51. In view of this, now this mock drill is being conducted in 295 districts. This exercise is being conducted on such a large scale after more than five decades. Before this, the last time a civil defence mock drill was conducted on such a large scale was during the Indo-Pak war in 1971. Experts believe that this could prove to be the biggest mock drill ever conducted before a war.

Along with civil defence personnel, various organisations and self-help groups are also participating in this massive mock drill at their own level. For this, they have informed the concerned local and state level officials.

Apart from this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also urged its MPs to participate in this drill as common citizens. Members of the student organization Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) are also ready to be a part of this important campaign. The purpose of this mock drill is to test and improve the preparedness and response mechanism of citizens and concerned agencies in case of any emergency, especially air or terrorist attack.
