Hospitals on Alert, Masks Back in Demand - This State Issues Fresh COVID Advisory

Update: 2025-05-23 06:09 GMT

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): With the COVID-19 cases again emerging in the country, the Andhra Pradesh government has released a new advisory asking people to be careful, especially the weaker sections. The advisory strongly advises senior citizens aged 60 years and above and pregnant women to stay at home to avoid infection.

In order to prevent the virus from spreading, the state has recommended cancellation of all public meetings such as prayer meetings, social events, and parties. Authorities have also insisted on strict implementation of COVID-19 protocols in densely populated areas like railway stations, bus stands, and airports.

The advisory reiterates that older citizens and pregnant women are more susceptible and should exercise added care. They are instructed to frequently wash hands, cover the mouth while coughing or sneezing, not touch the face, and wear masks—particularly in high-risk or poorly ventilated spaces.

Besides, those who have exhibited symptoms of COVID-19 are urged to be tested immediately. The government urged early detection in order to curb the spread further. Individuals who have come back from countries with recent COVID outbreaks are also encouraged to be tested. The advisory includes usual symptoms, varying among individuals such as fever, cough, sore throat, tiredness, loss of taste and smell, headache, muscle or body aches, stuffiness, and gastrointestinal distress. Individuals showing symptoms should go to the nearest health facility and self-quarantine if they are not well.

Precautions to handle a likely influx are already in place. The health department has ordered hospitals to maintain sufficient stocks of masks, PPE kits, and other protective equipment. India had 257 active COVID-19 cases as of May 19, 2025. The Union Health Ministry is keeping a close eye on the situation and has asked the public to be cautious but not panicked.
