Hostage for Rupees: Husband Sells Wife for Rs 2.25 Lakh, Buyer Holds Her Captive
Jaunpur (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case has come to light from Jaunpur, UP, where a man sold his wife for Rs 2 lakh 20 thousand.The case is of Maharajganj police station area. Police station in-charge Amit Kumar Pandey said that 34-year-old Shobhavati of scheduled caste has given an application saying that she was married to Rajesh, a resident of Khanpur of Singramau police station area, about 15 years ago. She has 2 sons and 2 daughters. Rajesh is a drug addict and he also had relations with another woman. The victim told that the accused sold her about one and a half years ago for drugs. On February 4, she escaped from the clutches of the buyers.
It is alleged that about one and a half years ago, her husband Rajesh took her to Ashok Kumar of Badalpur police station area on the pretext of getting a ration card made and then sold her to him for Rs 2.20 lakh. On protesting, Ashok Kumar and his companions threatened them with weapons and kept the victim hostage there. After some time, one day Shobhavati's brother Guddu reached her in-laws' house, then the victim's husband Rajesh told him that his sister ran away somewhere with the children.
Guddu did not believe this and went to the police station on suspicion, but his case was not heard at the police station. When the case reached the court of Judicial Magistrate First Shilpi, the judge took cognizance and immediately ordered to register a case against the victim's husband Rajesh, buyer Ashok, clerk Harijan and an unknown person under various sections including selling, assault, causing injury, conspiracy, threatening.
