India Bolsters National Security: Former RAW Chief Appointed NSAB Chairman
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant move to bolster national security, the Indian government has made key appointments to the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB). Former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Alok Joshi has been appointed as the chairman of the board. Six other distinguished members have also been inducted into the board, including:
Air Marshal PM Sinha, former Western Air Commander
Lieutenant General AK Singh, former Southern Army Commander
Rear Admiral Monty Khanna, a retired naval officer
Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh, retired Indian Police Service officers
B. Venkatesh Verma, a retired Indian Foreign Service officer
Decision Taken in CCS Meeting
The appointments were made in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. The decision comes in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, including a Nepali national and injured many others.
The NSAB is a team of eminent persons from outside the government who provide analysis and recommend policy options to the National Security Council on issues of national security. The board plays a crucial role in advising the government on matters related to national security and strategic planning.
Government's Response to Pahalgam Attack
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a series of high-level meetings, including the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) and Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). A full cabinet meeting is also scheduled to discuss the implications of the attack and the government's response.
