India Seeks Partners, Not Preachers: Jaishankar Slams European Countries
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday criticized some European countries, saying India is looking for partners, not preachers who fail to practice what they preach. Speaking at the Arctic Circle India Forum 2025, Jaishankar emphasized the need for mutual understanding and sensitivity in global partnerships. Jaishankar noted that Europe is finally experiencing a reality check as it grapples with the realities of multipolarity. "Europe has entered a certain zone of reality check. Whether they are able to step up or not is something we will have to see," he said.
The External Affairs Minister highlighted India's significant role in global politics, saying any consequential event in any corner of the world matters to the country. He emphasized the need for partnerships based on mutual interest and understanding.
Jaishankar also discussed India's engagement in polar regions, noting the country's four-decade involvement in Antarctica and recent strengthening of its Arctic policy through international collaborations. He emphasized the global relevance of the Arctic and its impact on India's economic growth.
Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, Chairman of the Arctic Circle and former President of Iceland, urged Indian economists to take the Arctic's resources seriously, as global politics undergo a significant shift. Jaishankar echoed this sentiment, saying the Arctic's trajectory will have a global impact, making it a concern for everyone.
