India Sees Surge in Active COVID-19 Cases, Exceeding 3,395; Government Urges Caution

According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, the number of active cases of Covid-19 across the country has reached 3,395. In the last 24 hours, 685 new cases have been reported and 4 people have also died.

According to the Health Ministry, one person each has died in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. A huge jump has been seen in the number of active corona cases in just a few days. There were only 257 cases on May 22. On May 26, it increased to 1,010. Now the figure has reached 3,395.
ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Behal said that genome sequencing of samples taken from West and South India has identified four sub-variants of Omicron - LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1. Of these, the first three sub-variants have been found in the highest number of cases. He said that the situation is being closely monitored and there is no need to panic at this time, but it is important to remain alert.
In view of the opening of schools, the Karnataka government issued a circular after the Covid review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 26. All parents have been appealed not to send children to school if they have fever, cough or Covid-like symptoms. Such children should be sent to school only after they are completely cured and on the advice of a doctor. If children with such symptoms come to school, arrangements should be made to send them home.
Experts have appealed to the public that even if the infection is not serious, wear a mask, avoid crowds and get tested if symptoms appear. Vigilance and awareness are the only ways to prevent the spread of this infection.
