India Successfully Tests Indigenous Counter Drone System 'Bhargavastra'
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has achieved a significant milestone in its defense capabilities with the successful testing of the indigenous low-cost counter drone system 'Bhargavastra' in hard kill mode. The test was conducted at the Seaward Firing Range in Odisha's Gopalpur.
Key Features of Bhargavastra
The Bhargavastra system has been designed and developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) to counter the growing threat of drone swarms. Its key features include:
1. Multi-layered defense with unguided micro rockets and guided micro-missiles
2. Advanced detection and targeting capabilities with radar and EO/IR sensors
3. Terrain adaptability and modularity for deployment in diverse environments
4. Indigenous design with compatibility with existing network-centric warfare systems
Successful Trials
The system underwent rigorous testing, with three trials conducted on May 13 in the presence of senior Army Air Defence officials. The trials included firing single rockets and a salvo of two rockets, all of which performed as expected and achieved the required launch parameters.
Significance of Bhargavastra
The Bhargavastra system signifies a substantial leap in India's defense capabilities, providing a reliable solution for countering drone threats. Its development underscores India's commitment to self-reliance in defense and the Make in India initiative.
