New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The people of the country have got a big relief on the inflation front. According to the retail inflation (CPI) data released by the government on Tuesday, this rate has come down to 3.16 percent in April 2025. This is the lowest level of retail inflation in almost 6 years. Earlier in March also, the inflation rate had declined and it had reached a 5-month low of 3.34 percent.

The main reason for this big drop in inflation in April is the reduction in the prices of food items. There has been a decline in the prices of vegetables, fruits, pulses and other protein-rich food items. This figure is within the limit set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for inflation (4% +/- 2%), due to which the country's economic situation remains stable.

According to official data, the retail inflation rate was 3.16 percent in April 2025, while it was 3.34 percent in March 2025 and a year ago in April 2024 it was at the level of 4.83 percent. The lowest level of inflation was earlier recorded at 3.15 percent in July 2019.

There has been a significant decline in food inflation. Food inflation was only 1.78 percent in April 2025, while it was 2.69 percent in March. Last year in April 2024, food inflation was at a high level of 8.7 percent, compared to which the current rate shows a huge decline.

However, an increase in inflation has also been observed in some sectors. Health inflation stood at 4.25 percent in April 2025, which is almost the same as 4.26 percent in March. Inflation in transport and telecommunications increased from 3.36 percent in March 2025 to 3.73 percent in April 2025. At the same time, there has been a sharp increase in the inflation rate of fuel and electricity and it has increased from 1.42 percent in March to 2.92 percent in the month of April.
