Mary Kom Officially Confirms Divorce Through Social Media Post, Urges Respect for Privacy
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Mary Kom, the renowned Olympic medal-winning boxer, has officially confirmed her divorce from her husband, Karung Onkholer, also known as Onler. The divorce was finalized by mutual consent on December 20, 2023, in the presence of both families and clan elders, under KOM customary law.
Setting the Record Straight
The boxing legend took to social media to address the issue after several media outlets began circulating false rumors about her personal life. These rumors included claims of her being in a relationship with Hitesh Choudhary, a business partner and chairman of the Mary Kom Boxing Foundation, and allegations of involvement with another boxer's husband.
Legal Notice Issued
Mary Kom shared a legal notice issued on her behalf, which stated that her divorce was amicable and finalized months ago. The notice also urged media platforms to respect her privacy and avoid spreading misinformation, warning that failure to comply could lead to legal action, including defamation and violation of privacy laws.
Appeal for Space
Mary Kom appealed to her fans, friends, and the public to give her the space she needs, stating that the past two years have been personally difficult for her. A press conference addressing this matter had already been held in Manipur, and the legal notice serves as a formal and final clarification.
