Mobile network cracks case: 3 arrested for MBBS student's gang rape
Kolkata (Uttam Hindu News): Police have arrested three accused in the gang rape of an MBBS student in Durgapur, West Bengal, but two are still at large. According to reports, police were able to track these suspects using mobile network information.
Three arrested in West Bengal for gang rape of MBBS student; police tracked mobile network to nab the accused: New Township police station of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate has registered a case of gang rape on the complaint of the victim's family. Police said that a search operation was conducted in the forest near the incident site throughout the night. By tracking the mobile network, 3 suspects have been arrested who have a connection with this case. One of them is a classmate, on whom the victim's father had expressed suspicion. Police have formed a special investigation team and several people including friends are being questioned. Two accused are still absconding and raids are on to search for them. According to police, the victim's statement has been recorded and samples have been sent for forensic examination.
A 23-year-old MBBS student from Jaleswar, Odisha, left the college campus with a male classmate around 8:30 pm on Friday. Near the campus gate, some men allegedly began following her and making lewd comments. They then forcibly dragged her to a secluded area behind the hospital campus, where they gang-raped her. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the New Township Police Station arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The victim was immediately admitted to a hospital for medical examination and treatment, where she is currently under the close observation of doctors.
