Passenger Bus Falls into Ravine in Sri Lanka: 21 Dead, More than 30 Injured

Colombo ( The Uttam Hindu): A horrific road accident took place in Kotmale area of ​​Central Province of Sri Lanka on Sunday. At least 21 people died and more than 30 passengers were injured when a passenger bus fell into a deep ravine. Local police have confirmed the accident.

According to the police, the tragic incident occurred when the bus owned by the state transport body was trying to take a left turn on a hilly road. During this, the bus went out of control and fell into the ditch. Police and rescue teams reached the spot immediately after the accident and took several people out of the ditch and took them to nearby hospitals.

Police said a total of 75 passengers were on board the bus. The bus was travelling from the southern pilgrimage site of Kataragama to the northwestern city of Kurunegala. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Sri Lanka's Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena has confirmed that 21 people have died in the accident. He said that more than 30 injured passengers have been admitted to various hospitals for treatment, some of whom are said to be in critical condition.
