PM Modi to Visit Punjab and Himachal Today; Aerial Survey of Flood-Hit Regions, Meeting with Victims and Officials Scheduled
Chandigarh/ Shimla (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the flood-affected regions of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh today, marking his first visit after the devastating rains and floods that caused large-scale destruction in both states.
According to the official schedule, the Prime Minister will first arrive in Pathankot, Punjab, from where he will proceed by helicopter to Himachal Pradesh. He is expected to conduct an aerial survey of Chamba, Kullu, and Mandi districts—areas severely hit by flash floods and landslides. Later, PM Modi will land at Gaggal Airport and hold a high-level meeting in Dharamshala with state officials, including Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, to review the situation and ongoing relief operations.
After completing his Himachal visit, the Prime Minister will return to Pathankot. In Punjab, he is likely to interact with flood victims in Gurdaspur and Pathankot. Strict security arrangements have been put in place in both states for the Prime Minister’s visit.
Due to ill health, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will not be able to meet PM Modi. Instead, the state’s Chief Secretary will present a detailed report on the damage and losses caused by the floods. The Punjab government has already sought a relief package of ₹80,000 crore from the Centre to rebuild infrastructure and provide compensation to affected families.
Both states are hopeful of a special relief package following the Prime Minister’s visit. PM Modi is expected to reach Gurdaspur around 4 PM to personally meet flood-affected families. Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar and acting president Ashwani Sharma will also accompany him during this interaction.
