PM Modi Leads High-Level Security Meeting with Rajnath Singh, NSA and Armed Forces Chiefs
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting with top defence officials at his residence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and the chiefs of the three armed forces were present in the meeting.
The meeting took place amid tense calm along the border with Pakistan, where no fresh incidents of ceasefire violation have been reported so far. Actually, Pakistan violated the ceasefire on Saturday, but there was peace at night. Earlier, Pakistan had expressed commitment to follow the ceasefire. US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire on Saturday and New Delhi said India and Pakistan had agreed to stop firing and military action.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar categorically stated that India has maintained a firm and unwavering stance against all forms of terrorism and will continue to do so. However, Pakistan sought US mediation for peace after India's strong response. After this, it also announced a ceasefire, but later violated it again. India retaliated immediately, after which Pakistan stopped sending drones and missiles.
India clearly stated that Pakistani drones were spotted over various places in Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, parts of Gujarat and Barmer in Rajasthan, following which they were intercepted. Not only this, a blackout had to be imposed again in many border areas. India said that Pakistan has violated the ceasefire and the Indian armed forces are giving an appropriate and strong response. In a press briefing late Saturday night, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India has taken these violations very seriously.
He said, "We urge Pakistan to take appropriate steps to stop these violations and handle the situation with seriousness and responsibility. The armed forces are closely monitoring the situation and have been given strict instructions to respond strongly to any violation on the International Border and the Line of Control." However, Pakistan later said that it was committed to sincerely implementing the ceasefire agreement. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said, "Pakistan believes that this is a new beginning towards resolution of regional problems and achieving peace, prosperity and stability."
