Post-Pahalgam Attack, Tight Security in Kedarnath with 139 Cameras and Bomb Squad

Update: 2025-05-02 04:21 GMT

Uttarakhand (The Uttam Hindu): In the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security arrangements for the Chardham Yatra—especially Kedarnath—have been significantly increased. More than 1000 personnel, including police and paramilitary forces, have been deployed across the Yatra route. Tight security checks are being conducted, and advanced surveillance has been put in place.

The Kedarnath Dham, which opened for darshan on 2nd May at 7 a.m., is under constant 24-hour monitoring through 139 CCTV cameras installed from Sonprayag to the shrine. These cameras are directly linked to the main control room of the Collectorate and monitored by the District Magistrate. Bomb disposal and dog squads are also actively stationed in the area.

Pilgrims arriving for the yatra are now required to follow a strict token-based darshan system to avoid unnecessary queues. Every hour, limited batches will be allowed inside the temple for a smoother and safer experience. Hot water arrangements have also been made for those waiting in lines.

Bloggers and YouTubers are banned from videography within 30 meters of the temple, and any violation will result in immediate action. NDRF, SDRF, DDRF, ITBP, and Home Guards are also present to handle emergencies.

Accommodation for around 30,000 pilgrims has been arranged, including tent colonies, GMVN cottages, and local lodges from Kedarpuri to the base camp. Helicopter services have resumed but are being interrupted due to bad weather, which has posed early operational challenges.

On the very first day of the Yatra, over 10,000 pilgrims reached Kedarnath Dham, with many more expected in the coming days. Despite the influx, authorities have ensured all facilities related to food, stay, and darshan are in place.

📌 Registration Guidelines:

It is mandatory for all pilgrims to register either online at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or through the mobile app Tourist Care Uttarakhand.
