Rahul Gandhi, Kharge Push for Special Session to Address Pahalgam Attack and Ceasefire Agreement
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding immediate convening of a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and ceasefire declaration.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi wrote in his letter, "I reiterate the unanimous request of the opposition that a special session of Parliament be convened immediately. It is very important for the people and their representatives to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and today's ceasefire, which was first announced by US President Trump. This session will be an opportunity to demonstrate our collective resolve to face the challenges ahead. I am confident that you will consider this demand seriously and expeditiously."
Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge referred to his letter dated April 28, in which he had urged Prime Minister Modi to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack. Kharge wrote in his letter, “Hon’ble Prime Minister, please recall what I had said to you as the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha. Through a letter dated April 28, I had requested you to convene a special session of both the Houses of Parliament in view of the inhuman terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In view of the latest developments, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha has again written to you and apprised you of the unanimous request of all opposition parties. He has requested to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terrorism, Operation Sindoor and the ceasefire declarations made by the governments of India and Pakistan first in Washington DC and later. As the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, I am writing in support of this request. I am confident that you will agree.”
While talking to the media, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal urged to call a special session of Parliament and an all-party meeting. He also said that we will not make any criticism today. He also appealed to all political parties not to attend the meeting until the government assures them that the Prime Minister will also be present in the meeting.
