Rs 2 Crore in Question: Chief Engineer Tries to Dispose of Cash During Vigilance Raid, Watch VIDEO!
Bhubaneshwar (The Uttam Hindu): Odisha Vigilance department has seizured staggering Rs 2 crore in cash in a raid on the residence of Baikunthanath Sarangi who happens to be the Chief Engineer at Bhubaneshwar Rural Department. A video shared by name of piyush@bebak has been makking rounds on socila media where he can be seen throwing away cash from his house window.
The raids were conducted simultaneously at seven locations across Angul, Bhubaneswar and Puri, led by a team of 8 DSPs, 12 Inspectors and 6 ASIs. The vigilance team also searched the office room of the Chief Engineer in Bhubaneswar. When the vigilance officers arrived at Sarangi's residence, he attempted to destroy bundles of cash by throwing them out of the window. However, the bundles were later recovered in the presence of witnesses.
The raids were conducted based on allegations of acquiring assets disproportionate to income. Sarangi was due to retire just two days after the raid. The seized amount includes Rs 90 lakh from his house in Angul and Rs 1.10 crore from his residence in the capital. The Odisha Vigilance department is investigating the matter, and further action will be taken based on the findings. The case highlights the department's efforts to crack down on corruption and ensure accountability among public officials.
