Waterfall Tragedy Claims Life of RIMS Intern; Three Others Rescued
Ranchi (The Uttam Hindu): A doctor of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the biggest hospital of Jharkhand's capital Ranchi, has died tragically after drowning in a waterfall. A group of 26 intern doctors of RIMS hospital had gone to a waterfall about 40 km from Ranchi to take a picnic. During this time, four doctors started drowning while bathing, one of whom died. As soon as the news of this incident spread, a wave of mourning spread in the RIMS hospital campus.
According to the information, 26 intern doctors of the 2019 MBBS batch of RIMS Hospital located in Bariatu, Ranchi, went to the famous Perwaghagh waterfall located in Torpa of Khunti district, about 40 km from Ranchi, for a picnic on Sunday. While having fun there, Dr. Abhishek Khalkho, Dr. Kirtivardhan, Dr. Jasua Toppo and Dr. Ajay Modi along with some other doctors got into the water and started bathing. Due to not knowing the depth of the water, these four doctors started drowning.
Seeing them drowning, other colleagues of the doctors started shouting. Hearing the cries, local divers dived into the deep water of the waterfall and rescued three intern doctors safely, but when Dr. Abhishek Khalkho was taken out of the water, his condition was very critical. He was immediately taken to the local hospital of Torpa, where after first aid, seeing his critical condition, the team of doctors immediately referred him to RIMS hospital.
On reaching RIMS hospital, the team of doctors declared Dr. Abhishek Khalkho dead after examination. After receiving the news of the death of a doctor of RIMS hospital due to drowning in Perwaghagh waterfall, there was mourning in the entire hospital campus. Dr. Abhishek Khalkho was doing internship at RIMS hospital in Ranchi after completing MBBS. The deceased doctor was originally from Khunti, but his entire family had shifted to Nagpur in Maharashtra.
