Shocking! Toilet Explodes in Greater Noida Home, Sparks Fire That Burns Young Man
Greater Noida (The Uttam Hindu): A very shocking and heartbreaking incident has come to light in Sector-36 of Greater Noida city of Uttar Pradesh. Here the toilet seat in the bathroom of a house suddenly exploded with a loud bang. In this accident, a young man who was using the toilet at that time got badly injured. There is a serious suspicion of the explosion due to methane gas accumulated in the sewer line behind the incident, which has exposed the flaws of the city's sewer system.
According to the information, this incident happened in house number C-364 of Sector-36 on Saturday afternoon. House owner Sunil Pradhan told that his 20-year-old son Ashu Nagar, who is a student, went to the bathroom on Saturday afternoon. As soon as he pressed the flush button of the western style toilet seat after defecation, the seat suddenly burst with a loud bang and flames started coming out.
Student Ashu Nagar's face, hands, legs and many other parts of the body were badly burnt due to the explosion and fire. His condition is so critical that according to doctors, the skin of his face and hands has peeled off. Injured Ashu has been rushed to GIMS Hospital in Greater Noida for treatment, where his condition remains critical and he is likely to take a long time to recover.
The methane gas formed in the sewer line is believed to be the main reason behind this tragic accident. Professor Sameer Kumar Singh of the Civil Engineering Department of ITS College said that in the absence of proper ventilation pipe (gas discharge pipe) in the sewer system, methane gas keeps accumulating inside and tries to escape from somewhere. It is possible that the gas spread in the bathroom through the toilet seat or pipeline and caught fire due to a small spark from the flush electric switch or any other device, which caused this massive explosion.
Harendra Bhati, a member of the local 'Active Citizen Team', said that the sewer system of Greater Noida is completely jammed and in a bad condition. Earlier, vent pipes were installed in the sewer lines, which allowed the methane gas to escape, but now this is not happening. He said that the main sewer line near the P-3 roundabout has been broken for about one and a half years and despite several complaints, the Greater Noida Authority has not got it repaired.
Sunil Pradhan, the father of the victim student, also confirmed that the sewer line adjacent to his house has been blocked for a long time. He also suspects that due to this blockage, methane gas was formed in the sewer line of his house and the explosion occurred due to the spark during flushing. He also mentioned the exhaust of the window AC installed in the shaft between the bathroom and the kitchen, behind which there is a green belt. This incident has raised serious questions on the maintenance and safety of the sewer system of Greater Noida.
