Beijing (The Uttam Hindu): In a remarkable medical discovery, doctors in China have successfully removed a 17-cm toothbrush from the intestine of a 64-year-old man. The astonishing part? The toothbrush had been lodged in his body for an incredible 52 years.

The patient, Mr. Yang, had swallowed the toothbrush at the age of 12, but was too afraid to inform his parents. Believing it would dissolve on its own, he lived a normal life without any major issues. Recently, during a routine digestive system check, doctors found the toothbrush stuck in his small intestine.

A team of skilled doctors performed an 80-minute endoscopic surgery to remove the toothbrush. According to medical experts, the presence of a foreign object like a toothbrush in the intestine can cause severe complications, including intestinal perforation, which can be fatal.

Fortunately, in Mr. Yang's case, the toothbrush had become lodged in a crook of the intestine and barely moved over the decades. The successful removal of the toothbrush has sparked amazement and relief, with many social media users marveling at Mr. Yang's good fortune.

This is not an isolated incident in China. In 2019, a hospital in Guangdong province removed a 14-centimeter toothbrush from a 51-year-old man who had swallowed it 20 years earlier in a suicidal attempt.

The medical community is hailing the successful removal of the toothbrush as a testament to modern medical technology and the expertise of the doctors involved.
