Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): Five passengers lost their lives in a massive fire that broke out in a double-decker bus in the Mohanlalganj area of ​​Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday morning. The deceased include two women and a child, while several other passengers who suffered severe burn injuries have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The heart-wrenching incident took place around 5:00 am on Kisan Path when the passenger bus going from Begusarai in Bihar to Delhi suddenly caught fire. According to initial investigation, the cause of the fire is being attributed to a short circuit in the gear box of the bus.

The driver and cleaner jumped from the spot and fled, while two gas cylinders have also been recovered from the bus, which further increased the intensity of the fire.

More than six fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and controlled the fire after about half an hour of effort. After the fire was extinguished, the police and the medical team of PGI took out the bodies trapped in the bus and sent them for post-mortem. There were about 80 passengers in the bus. After the accident, the police have cordoned off the area and investigation has been started. The families of the deceased have been informed and a detailed report of the accident is being prepared. The police and the transport department are now investigating why the bus did not have safety standards, and why the emergency exit door did not open. The responsibility of the bus owner and operator is also being decided.
