Tragic loss: 9-year-old student ends life after classmates mock uniform, police investigation underway
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : A shocking incident has come to light from Chanda Nagar, Hyderabad. Prashant, a 9-year-old fourth-grade student, committed suicide.
According to reports, Prashant allegedly committed suicide after being harassed by his classmates. The investigation revealed that Prashant was deeply distressed by the treatment meted out to him by his classmates. His classmates often teased him for not wearing his school uniform properly.
When Prashant returned from school, he didn't change his clothes or take off his bag. He went straight to the washroom and used the cord from his school ID card to hang himself. When he didn't come out for a long time, the door was broken open and Prashant was found hanging. Upon being taken to the hospital, doctors declared him dead. The local police were informed and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
Police and education officials have clarified that strict legal provisions exist against bullying in schools. According to officials, "Students found guilty of bullying may be suspended with immediate effect or compulsorily transferred to another institution. Furthermore, those found guilty may also face compulsory psychological counseling and legal penalties based on age."
