10-Minute delivery bites the dust: Govt cracks down on quick-commerce apps
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The promise of "10-minute delivery," which had created a stir in the online market, has now been severely curtailed by the central government. Whether your order arrives within 10 minutes or not, delivery companies are now forced to remove this promise from their advertisements. The government has taken strict action to stop this "race" that puts the lives of delivery boys at risk, prompting major companies like Blinkit to immediately change their rules.
Consensus reached in meeting with minister
The Ministry of Labor held a crucial meeting with major companies like Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, and Zepto. During the meeting, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya categorically told officials that the 10-minute deadline was contributing to a rise in road accidents. In light of the government's strict stance, the companies have pledged to remove the "time limit" clause from their brand advertisements and social media.
Blinkit changed its tagline overnight
The government's directive had an immediate impact. Blinkit has removed the "10-minute delivery" promise from its branding. The company's tagline, which previously was "10,000+ products delivered in 10 minutes," has now been changed to "30,000+ products delivered at your doorstep." In the coming days, other platforms like Swiggy and Zomato are expected to follow suit.
The government woke up after the strike and accidents
In fact, delivery partners risked their lives by driving vehicles for a 10-minute delivery, often resulting in accidents. On December 25th and 31st, gig workers (delivery boys) even went on a nationwide strike to protect their safety. In light of this protest and the increasing number of accidents, the Ministry of Labor has taken this decision to create a safer working environment for gig workers. Now, there will be no life-threatening time limit for delivery.
