Elon Musk calls for EU disbandment following $140M fine on X
New York (The Uttam Hindu): Elon Musk has expressed his anger after the European Union fined X 140 million euros. Musk told his 230 million followers that the European Union should be abolished.
Following a high-profile investigation seen as a test of the EU's intent to control X, the social media platform was fined 120 million euros, or $140 million, for violating the bloc's digital rules. The EU's action was criticized by the Trump administration.
"The EU should be abolished and sovereignty should be returned to individual countries so that governments can better represent their people," Musk posted on Instagram.
The fine against X was the first imposed by the European Commission under its Digital Services Act (DSA) for content. The Commission stated that X was guilty of violating the DSA's transparency obligation.
It said the violations allegedly included the misleading design of the platform's blue tick for verified accounts and its failure to provide researchers with access to public data. The commission further said X was also not sufficiently transparent about its advertising.
