New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The country's largest private bank, HDFC Bank, has made several major changes in the rules for its savings account holders, which have come into effect from August 1, 2025. Under these changes, charges on cash transactions, fund transfers and other banking services have been increased, which will directly affect the pockets of the customers. The bank says that this step has been taken with the aim of encouraging customers to do digital transactions.

Cash transaction rules became stricter

The biggest change has been made regarding the limit and fee of cash transactions. Now customers will be able to make free cash transactions (deposit or withdrawal) only 4 times in a month. After 4 free transactions, a hefty fee of Rs 150 will have to be paid on every additional transaction. The monthly limit of free cash transactions has also been reduced from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 1 lakh. If a customer makes a cash transaction of more than Rs 1 lakh in a month, he will have to pay a fee of Rs 5 per thousand (minimum fee will be Rs 150). However, no change has been made in the daily limit of Rs 25,000 for third-party transactions.

NEFT, RTGS and IMPS also became expensive

The bank has also revised the charges levied on online fund transfers:

NEFT Charges:

Up to Rs 10,000: Rs 2

Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh: Rs 4

Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh: Rs 14

Above Rs 2 lakh: Rs 24

RTGS Charges :

Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh: Rs 20

Above Rs 5 lakh: Rs 45

IMPS Charges:

Up to Rs 1,000: Rs 2.50

Rs 1,000 to Rs 1 lakh: Rs 5

Above 1 lakh: Rs 15

Burden on other banking services also increased

Balance, interest or address verification will now cost Rs 100 (Rs 90 for senior citizens). A fee of Rs 80 (Rs 72 for senior citizens) will be charged for old records or copy of paid cheque.

Now only one cheque book of 10 pages will be available free in a year. For additional cheque leaves, a fee of Rs 4 per page will have to be paid. The relief is that PIN regeneration has now been made completely free, which earlier cost Rs 40.
