Indian Stock Market to Remain Closed Today on Guru Nanak Jayanti

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): On the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, the Indian stock markets will remain closed today (Wednesday). According to the official website of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), trading activities in Equity, Equity Derivatives, and SLB segments will remain suspended. Additionally, there will be no trading in the Currency Derivatives and Interest Rate Derivatives segments today.

However, as per information regarding the Commodity Derivatives segment, trading will remain closed during the morning session (9 AM to 5 PM) but will resume for the evening session (5 PM to 11:30/11:55 PM). Normal trading on both NSE and BSE will resume tomorrow, Thursday, November 6.

On Tuesday, the last trading session saw markets ending in the red after a sharp decline. The Sensex fell 519.34 points (0.62%) to close at 83,459.15, while the Nifty dropped 165.70 points (0.64%) to end at 25,597.65. The Nifty Bank also declined 250.20 points (0.41%), closing at 57,827.05.

Among broader indices, the Nifty Midcap 100 dropped 250.20 points (0.42%) to 60,037.20, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 slipped 152.50 points (0.82%) to 18,360.90. Sector-wise, Nifty Auto, IT, PSU Bank, Financial Services, Pharma, FMCG, Metal, and Realty all ended in negative territory.

According to market experts, India’s macroeconomic fundamentals remain strong, supported by a robust manufacturing PMI and impressive GST collections, signaling steady economic momentum. They added that investors are expected to continue adopting a ‘buy on dips’ strategy, anticipating improvement in market trends in the coming quarters.
