New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amidst the LPG shortage in the country due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, the central government has given a very big and relieving news. Keeping in mind the crumbling hotel industry in the states and union territories and the problems of the common people, the government has taken an important decision to increase the allocation of commercial LPG drastically. According to the information received, from tomorrow i.e. Monday, March 23, 2026, the quota of commercial LPG for the states will be increased from 30 percent to 50 percent directly. This big step of the government will directly provide a big relief to the business class and small laborers struggling with gas shortage across the country.

Who will get the direct benefit of this additional quota?

This 50 percent increased quota of commercial gas by the government will be supplied primarily to priority sectors. This priority list primarily includes restaurants, dhabas, hotels, industrial canteens, food processing, and dairy units. Educational institutions, government-subsidized canteens, community kitchens, and hospitals have also been given priority. A major relief is also for migrant laborers, who will now have the opportunity to easily refill their 5 kg gas cylinders. Nearly half of the total commercial LPG is being allocated to these specific sectors to ensure smooth functioning of normal life and business.

To get a commercial LPG connection, you will have to accept this new condition

While the government has increased the gas quota, it has imposed a significant and strict condition for availing the benefits. This massive 50 percent allocation will only be given to consumers who are willing to take a piped natural gas (PNG) connection from the city gas distribution network. Under this, it has been made mandatory for Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) commercial and industrial BharatGas consumers to first register with BPCL to qualify for commercial LPG. Additionally, they will be required to apply for a PNG connection through their local city gas distributor. This masterstroke by the government is being considered a major step towards immediately meeting fuel demand in commercial sectors and promoting clean energy for the future of the country.
