Railways’ big move: Bedsheets & pillows coming to sleeper class – pay only a small charge

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Indian Railways has taken a new decision, providing major relief to millions of passengers traveling in sleeper coaches. Bed linen (sheets and pillows), previously available only in AC coaches, will soon be available in sleeper class as well. The Chennai Division of Southern Railway has announced that starting January 1, 2026, sleeper class passengers will be provided with clean and sanitized sheets and pillows.

However, this facility will be optional and passengers will have to pay a separate fee for it. Passengers will be able to purchase bedsheets and pillows as per their requirement from the coach attendant. This will be the first time in India that passengers will get the facility of bedsheets and pillows in sleeper class also. Till now, only AC class passengers are provided with bedrolls – which include bedsheets, pillows, blankets and hand towels.

The Chennai division of Southern Railway has said that a total of Rs 50 will be charged for a bed sheet, a pillow and a pillow cover. If passengers want only bed sheet then they will have to pay Rs 20 and if they want only pillow cover then they will have to pay Rs 30. Let us tell you that this facility will not be available in all trains. Actually, the Chennai division of Southern Railway has taken the initiative to start this facility for passengers travelling in sleeper class in only 10 trains in the initial phase.
