Sharad Agarwal Appointed as Tesla India Head; Former Lamborghini India Chief to Lead Company’s Local Operations
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a major move to expand its presence in India, Tesla has appointed Sharad Agarwal as the new Country Head for India. Agarwal previously served as the Head of Lamborghini India and recently resigned from his position as Chief Business Officer at Classic Legends. Earlier this year, Tesla opened its first showroom in Mumbai in July, followed by a second experience center in Delhi. With Agarwal’s appointment, the company aims to better understand and strengthen its position in the Indian market through strong local leadership.
According to Bloomberg, Agarwal’s appointment is part of Tesla’s new India strategy. Until now, the company’s operations in India were limited and managed remotely. With Agarwal on board, Tesla expects faster decision-making and a stronger local strategy. During his tenure at Lamborghini, Agarwal helped the company achieve record-breaking sales in India. His first major goal at Tesla will be to expand the sales and service network across the country. Currently, Tesla has two experience centers — one in Delhi and another in Mumbai.
After the resignation of former Country Head Prashant Menon in May, Tesla’s India operations were being managed by Southeast Asia Director Isabel Fan. With Agarwal’s appointment, Tesla will now operate with dedicated on-ground leadership in India. The company began sales in India in July, and within the initial months, it received nearly 800 orders.
Industry experts note that high import duties, premium pricing, and inadequate charging infrastructure remain key challenges for Tesla’s growth in India.
