Elon Musk's X Cuts Subscription Fees in India: What You Need to Know
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Elon Musk's social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has taken a big step to strengthen its presence in the Indian market. The company has drastically reduced the prices of all its 'X Premium' subscription plans in India. This is the biggest price cut ever since its launch in February 2023, which is directly aimed at attracting India's huge internet user base.
New rates applicable for web and mobile
X has made all three of its subscription plans – Basic, Premium and Premium+ – cheaper for web and mobile users.
New prices for web users:
Basic Plan: Now Rs 170 per month (Rs 1,700 per annum), earlier it was Rs 244 per month.
Premium Plan (Blue Tick): Now Rs 427 per month (Rs 4,272 per annum), earlier Rs 650 per month.
Premium+ Plan: Now Rs 2,570 per month (Rs 26,400 per annum), earlier priced at Rs 3,470 per month.
Prices for mobile users: Prices are slightly higher on mobile due to Google and Apple commissions.
Premium Plan (Blue Tick): Now Rs 470 per month for Android and iOS users, earlier Rs 900.
Premium+ Plan: Rs 3,000 per month for Android and Rs 5,000 on iOS.
Basic Plan: Available at Rs 170 per month, same as web.
Why were prices reduced?
The decision comes at a time when X is focusing on increasing subscription-based revenue by reducing its reliance on advertising. The company is making major changes to its strategy after the recent resignation of CEO Linda Yaccarino and the acquisition of X by Elon Musk's AI company xAI. India is one of the largest digital markets in the world, and with low prices, X is expecting a significant increase in its paid user base here.
What will you get special in which plan?
Basic: You will get features like editing posts, uploading long videos, and priority in replies.
Premium: Apart from basic features, you get blue ticks, fewer ads, access to X Pro and analytics tools and use of Grok AI chatbot.
Premium+: This provides a completely ad-free experience. It also includes the maximum boost to replies, the option to post longer articles, and access to the Radar tool for real-time trends.
