CM Mann sets off on Japan mission to script Punjab’s next big investment story
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will begin a 10-day visit to Japan tomorrow with the objective of boosting industrial development in the state and attracting foreign investment. During this visit, the Chief Minister will meet leading Japanese industrialists and representatives of top companies to strengthen economic ties and explore new areas of cooperation.
A major purpose of the tour is to invite Japanese investors to the 6th Progressive Punjab Investor Summit, scheduled to be held at ISB Mohali from March 13 to 15, 2026. The Punjab government aims to collaborate with Japan in key sectors including advanced machinery, automobile technology, electronics, food processing, solar energy and renewable energy.
Ahead of the visit, the Chief Minister held an online meeting three days ago with a high-level Japanese delegation, joined by Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora. Officials from the Japanese Embassy, JETRO, and JCCII participated, along with representatives of more than 25 prominent Japanese companies such as Panasonic, Sumitomo, Nippon, NEC and Toyota.
During his Japan mission, the Chief Minister will also promote the Invest Punjab Unified Regulatory Model. Through this model, investors will be informed about the single-window system that integrates various departments to streamline business processes in the state.
It is worth mentioning that Bhagwant Mann had earlier planned a visit to Japan in December 2024, but the required central approval was not granted. Prior to this, in September 2022, he had visited Germany and met ambassadors of several countries, as well as Indian industrialists in Delhi, encouraging them to invest in Punjab.
