Action intensifies after protest at AI Summit; IYC President Uday Bhanu Chib arrested, eight accused detained
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Police action is continuing in connection with the protest held during the AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. Delhi Police has arrested Uday Bhanu Chib, National President of the Indian Youth Congress. So far, a total of eight individuals have been taken into custody in this case. The arrested accused were produced before Patiala House Court. Security has been tightened inside and outside the court premises, and paramilitary forces have been deployed. A large number of Congress workers gathered outside the court complex.
Congress leaders have expressed strong displeasure over the arrest of the IYC President. Bhupesh Baghel criticized the action taken by Delhi Police and termed the arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib and other youth workers as unlawful. In a post on social media platform X, he stated that in a democracy, raising voices, asking questions and staging protests are not crimes but symbols of democratic strength. According to him, Youth Congress workers presented their views peacefully without any violence or provocation.
Bhupesh Baghel further alleged that the government is using police action to suppress legitimate and democratic protests. He described the move as an attack on freedom of expression and democratic values. He demanded the immediate release of Uday Bhanu Chib and all detained IYC workers, withdrawal of charges against them and an end to such action.
