Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): Dense fog along with the winter chill has increased problems across Uttar Pradesh, sharply reducing visibility and raising the risk of road accidents, especially on highways and expressways. In view of the worsening conditions, the UP Transport Department has issued strict instructions regarding bus operations.

According to the department, if visibility on any route falls below 50 metres, buses will be immediately stopped at toll plazas, rest areas, or other safe locations. During night hours, bus services will remain completely suspended in dense fog. Officials have clearly stated that buses will not be allowed to operate under any pressure during adverse weather conditions.

In unavoidable emergency situations, buses may be allowed to move only in groups and at very slow speeds. All buses must be equipped with fog lights, reflectors, and other essential safety devices. No bus will be permitted to operate without a proper safety check.

The transport department has directed officials to continuously monitor weather conditions and maintain close coordination with local administration and the meteorological department. Authorities emphasized that these measures are not mere formalities but are aimed strictly at ensuring passenger safety.

Passengers have also been advised to remain patient during foggy conditions and strictly follow safety guidelines. The decision has been taken in the wake of recent accidents, including a major mishap on the Mathura Expressway, to prevent loss of life and property during the fog season.
