Delhi Blast Accused Jaseer Wani Seeks Permission to Meet Lawyers in NIA Custody
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Jaseer Bilal Wani, an associate of terrorist Dr. Umar Muhammad and an accused in the Delhi blast case, has filed an application in the NIA court seeking permission to meet his lawyers at the agency headquarters. Sources said on Saturday that the Patiala House NIA Court will hear his request today. According to the NIA, Wani is an active co-conspirator of Dr. Umar and was arrested on 17 November from Srinagar.
On 18 November, the Patiala House Court sent Wani to 10-day NIA custody. He was produced before the court in connection with the Delhi blast, which had claimed 13 lives.
The investigation has revealed that Wani allegedly provided technical assistance for carrying out the terror attack. He was reportedly involved in modifying a drone and attempting to make rockets before the deadly car bomb blast. A resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district, Wani had planned and executed the attack along with Dr. Umar Muhammad Nabi.
The NIA is examining all angles to uncover the full conspiracy behind the blast. Multiple anti-terror teams are analysing leads and conducting searches across several states to identify everyone involved. Meanwhile, police have established a link between the 10 November blast near Delhi’s Red Fort and the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Investigators found that a JeM operative had taught the accused how to assemble the bomb.
Another major revelation shows that the accused were preparing nearly 200 bombs to trigger explosions simultaneously in Delhi and other parts of North India. The plan involved carrying out coordinated blasts across northern states, and ISI had assigned a JeM operative to train members of the Faridabad module involved in the attack. Agencies have now intensified the investigation into the terror network.
