New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi Chief Minister Mrs Rekha Gupta today inaugurated the state-of-the-art SSB Multi-Speciality Hospital located near Kailash Colony Metro Station. She emphasised that her government is committed to reviving Delhi’s long-neglected healthcare system, which had deteriorated due to the indifference of previous administrations. In this effort, construction work on 24 new hospitals across Delhi has been launched. These hospitals will not only serve the people of Delhi but will also cater to patients at national and global levels.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that this hospital would prove to be a boon for Delhiites and marks a significant step towards the government’s vision of transforming the capital into a health hub. She highlighted the importance of the hospital’s association with the Ayushman Bharat scheme, ensuring affordable and quality healthcare for every citizen.

Expressing concern over Delhi’s inadequate healthcare infrastructure, the Chief Minister noted that due to years of neglect by previous governments, the situation had become dire.

Currently, Delhi has fewer than two hospital beds per 1,000 people, well below the WHO’s minimum standard of 2, and far behind developed nations, which average 5 beds per 1,000. “Our government is determined to correct this shameful state of affairs and elevate Delhi’s healthcare system to international standards. No patient should lose their life due to a lack of treatment,” she said.

The Chief Minister added that the Delhi government has prioritised the completion of 24 long-pending hospital projects, which had been ignored for years by former governments. “It is our firm resolve to make Delhi a leading medical hub — with top-tier doctors, cutting-edge technology, affordable treatment, and world-class trauma care available to every citizen.”

She further stated that the Delhi government is modernising its hospitals with new technologies and advanced equipment. Recently, state-run hospitals have been equipped with devices capable of performing DNA testing from a single drop of blood. This will ensure the quality of blood donations and enable the timely detection of critical illnesses.

Extending her congratulations to Dr S.S. Bansal, Chairman of the hospital, and the entire medical team, the Chief Minister said that a strong partnership between the government and hospitals would pave the way for Delhi to lead in the healthcare sector. “After years of apathy, our government is working on a mission to transform Delhi into a robust health hub. Together, we will achieve this vision,” she affirmed.

The event was also attended by MP Ms Bansuri Swaraj and local MLAs.
