Double Attack of Fog and Pollution: Flight Operations Slow Down Due to Low Visibility, IndiGo and Air India Issue Advisory
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Dense fog covered Delhi and the NCR region on Monday morning, sharply reducing visibility and impacting flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). Poor runway visibility led to delays and disruptions in several flights, causing inconvenience to passengers. Considering the situation, airlines issued advisories urging travelers to check flight updates before heading to the airport.
Leading airline IndiGo posted an update on social media platform X, stating that adverse weather conditions and low visibility in Delhi may affect flight schedules. The airline advised passengers to verify their flight status through the official website or mobile app before starting their journey. IndiGo also assured travelers that its teams are fully prepared to assist passengers and ensure safe operations.
Air India also released a similar advisory, stating that dense fog is impacting flight operations not only in Delhi but across several parts of North India. Passengers have been advised to confirm flight timings in advance to avoid inconvenience.
Along with disrupted air traffic, air quality in the national capital remains extremely poor. A mix of fog and smog has turned the city’s atmosphere hazardous. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 452 at 8 am on Monday, falling under the ‘severe’ category. On Sunday, the AQI was recorded at 461. The Meteorological Department has warned of continued dense fog in the coming days, raising the possibility of further flight delays and cancellations.
