Dumper overturns on car carrying family to a funeral; all 7 killed on the spot
Saharanpur (The Uttam Hindu): A heartbreaking road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur on Friday morning shocked the entire district. In the Gagalhedi police station area, a high-speed dumper lost control and overturned onto a car, crushing it completely. All seven occupants belonging to the same family died on the spot. Among the victims was a young child.
The tragedy becomes even more painful because the family was travelling to attend a relative’s funeral. The family from Syed Mazra village was on its way to Gangoh after hearing about the death of a relative, but fate struck before they could reach. The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Sandeep, his sister Jolly Devi (27), brother-in-law Shekhar Kumar (28), their mother Rani Devi, cousin Vipin (20), Raju Saini (27) and a child.
As news of the accident spread, people from nearby villages rushed to the spot, leading to chaos and anger. Locals blocked the road, demanding senior officers to visit the location. The CO Sadar and Gagalhedi SHO reached with heavy police force and managed to control the crowd. Traffic police teams worked to clear the jam.
The scene was extremely distressing. Police called in a crane and JCB to lift the overturned dumper, and the car had to be cut open to retrieve the bodies. When the news reached Syed Mazra village, grief engulfed the entire community. All bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and legal proceedings have begun.
