New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Monday after his health suddenly deteriorated. According to sources, the 74-year-old leader suffered two episodes of fainting within a week, following which doctors advised hospital admission for detailed medical evaluation.

Officials said that on January 10, Dhankhar fainted twice while in the washroom. After this incident, he visited AIIMS on January 12 for medical examination, where doctors, considering his condition, recommended immediate admission and close monitoring. Several medical tests, including an MRI scan, are being conducted to assess his health.

This is not the first time that Jagdeep Dhankhar has faced such health issues. During his tenure as Vice President, he had fainted on multiple occasions while attending public events in Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala, and Delhi. Ongoing health concerns were one of the key reasons behind his decision to step down before completing his full term.

It may be recalled that on July 21 last year, Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President citing health reasons, invoking Article 67(a) of the Constitution. At the time, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet, and Members of Parliament for their support and cooperation. As a former Vice President, he currently receives official accommodation, medical facilities, and a monthly pension of around Rs 2 lakh. A senior team of doctors at AIIMS is currently monitoring his condition.
