Government Implements Digital Delivery of Court Summons and Warrants via WhatsApp & Email
New delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Delhi government has made a big change regarding the service of summons and arrest warrants. Now court summons and warrants can be sent to people on mobile through WhatsApp and email. For this, the government has notified the Delhi BNSS (Service of Summons and Warrants) Rules, 2025.
According to the information, this decision of the government will make the delivery of summons possible within minutes and will save time and paperwork. Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena has already approved this notification.
Under the new system, summons and warrants issued by the courts will have the digital seal and signature of the judge. The police will send this notice to the concerned person via email or WhatsApp. If online service is not possible due to technical reasons, the court can order to give a hard copy. For this, electronic summons distribution centers will also be set up in police stations.
It is noteworthy that recently the LG of Delhi had allowed police officers to testify in the court through video conferencing from the police station itself. However, the Aam Aadmi Party and lawyers have opposed this order.
