Railways Approves Plan to Develop Passenger Holding Areas at Major Stations Across India
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Following the successful implementation of a passenger holding area at the New Delhi Railway Station during Diwali and Chhath festivals, which received an overwhelmingly positive response from passengers, the Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has approved a plan to develop similar facilities at major railway stations across the country.
Under this initiative, holding areas will be developed at 76 railway stations nationwide to ensure passenger convenience during peak travel seasons. According to the directive of the Railway Minister, all these holding areas will be completed before the 2026 festive season.
For Northern Railway, the designated stations include New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi Junction, Ghaziabad, Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ayodhya Dham, and Haridwar, among others.
These holding areas are expected to provide passengers with comfortable waiting spaces and help decongest platforms during high-traffic periods.
